CRIMINAL ELEMENT was formed in 2001 by founding members VINCE MATTHEWS and WAYNE JONES. The creation of this band came in a very unique way. Vince Matthews was currently the vocalist for DYING FETUS and when DF was not touring the globe, Vince and Wayne were touring up and down the coast doing an elaborate scheme that was highly against the law. In other words, they had a crazy hustle that netted them thousands of dollar$ a week.

From Cleveland, OH to Atlanta, GA they rolled the dice on freedom committing felonies that could have easily landed them in jail at any time. But due to the fact that they had been involved with the BLACK MARKET retail lords already for a decade, it was like a normal job to them. The idea to take the money that they earned and invest it in buying musical gear came from WAYNE JONES. The plan was to get a drum kit and a sick guitar rig then learn to play and write songs that related to the life they lived. With Vince already involved in DYING FETUS and having the luxury of performing on a high level, he always wanted to play the drums and Wayne had the passion for playing the guitar.

Once the plan was in place the two went out and made a quick couple thousand dollars and bought the equipment that was needed. Wayne was the mastermind of the whole operation… the stakes were high because although none of their crimes were ever violent, the black market consists of crimes in which federal laws are being broken. Needless to say Vince and Wayne were professionals and they made it look easy.

Once they had the equipment needed they landed a rehearsal spot at the same place DYING FETUS was practicing. CRIMINAL ELEMENT was born and after a few months of one-on-one writing songs together they committed to the same practice schedule as Fetus. This had Vince practicing his DYING FETUS set and then running around back and doing a set with CRIMINAL ELEMENT on drums. Flip-flopping sets between both bands, a job that demanded pure commitment but resulted in over-whelming FUN!! Look for some insane true stories about the creation of CRIMINAL ELEMENT and a release of live sets and rehearsals of the CRIMINAL ELEMENT line up 2001-2004. Coming Soon!!
